{bride blogger katie} taking the first steps

Jerad & I are pretty early on in our wedding planning process, so I’m sure there will be lots of opportunities to share with you over the next 7 months.  With wedding season well underway, we got some inspiration this past weekend for creating a fun celebration after attending a wedding for one of our favorite couples – Wyatt & Amanda.  The day was just full of fun surprises, from their celebratory exit out of the church (to the tune of “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti and Spearhead) to a choreographed father-daughter dance medly.  They had a beautiful day & succeeded in making sure each of their guests had a great time!

So far, Jerad & I have the venues for our ceremony & reception booked for our December 30th nuptials.  The ceremony wll be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (in downtown Lincoln), followed by a reception at the Holiday Inn Downtown.  One of the great things about the Holiday Inn is that our guests will be able to stay at the same place that the celebration is being held.  This was especially important to us since it’ll be the New Year’s weekend as well.  Holiday Inn allowed us to extend our room block by an additional night for guests that would like to stay beyond the wedding night.  Although the official wedding festivities are taking place Friday evening, we hope to have the celebration continue throughout the weekend & celebrate the New Year, too!

One of the more minor decisions I’ve been hung up on is picking what our colors will be.  I have it narrowed down to black (always a classic), navy (something blue), or pewter (I thought this would be a festive “New Years-y” option).  I’ve even opened up a poll on Facebook!  As of now, pewter has the most votes (about 60%), followed by black (30%), then navy (10%), which surprised me.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, too!  My goal is to decide this week, then work on finalizing options for bridesmaid dresses.

In the meantime, this is one of the styles of bridesmaids dresses that I’ve been eyeing from Alfred Angelo.

221 days to go!

  • Brittani - Pewter definitely has my vote! I think it would be a good color because it fits the “New Years Theme” but also a good color for a winter wedding. 🙂 BUT black is always a safe and easy color to find dresses in and generally looks good on everyone.ReplyCancel

  • Angela - I vote for Pewter as well and that dress is gorgeous, LOVE IT!!ReplyCancel

  • Breeana - My vote is for Pewter too! Can you put Pewter together with the black? I love the bridesmaid dresses 🙂 Cannot wait for your next post! xoxoReplyCancel

  • Bre - I like pewter or black. The bridesmaid dress is cute, but it might be a little cold. I am excited for the wedding.ReplyCancel
