bride blogger megan: the venues

As every bride knows you can be bombarded with planning and to do lists the second you get engaged – I’m pretty sure people were asking Grant and I our wedding date the very night we got engaged. Luckily, there are many resources and checklists available making the planning process go smoothly – no matter where you’re planning from or what kind of wedding you will have.

I moved to California in March to be with my fiancee and now am planning our wedding on the West coast; obviously this is not always ideal. The move put me into a bit of panic mode in February. I realized that after being engaged for about 4 months I had not crossed a single item off my many wedding checklists. I was a little preoccupied with getting ready for a move across the country, transferring my job and enjoying just being engaged for a few months. So here is where I am at so far and thank goodness for those checklists and e-mail reminders.

Date: June 22, 2013

We had no idea where to start when picking a date, so we narrowed it down by agreeing that we preferred a Saturday wedding in the summer. Grant liked any month that didn’t compete with Husker football season and I liked June because I have heard it is good luck to get married in June.

Ceremony: St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church

We will be having a traditional Catholic wedding and I want the ceremony to feel very simple and classic.  Conveniently, the church that Grant grew up in is the perfect gothic style Catholic church. It has beautiful architecture and interior details which means we won’t have to worry about decorating, which will help cut costs on our floral budget.

Reception Venue: Lauritzen Gardens

My mom and I had toured and researched numerous reception venues before touring Lauritzen Gardens. As members, we loved visiting the different events and I had attended a few weddings at Laurtizen Gardens. Even with all the visits I had never pictured my wedding there, most likely because I was not engaged to be married at the time. However, the moment my mom and I completed the walk through we had the same feeling, this was exactly what Grant and I were looking for.

I love the idea of an outdoor wedding, but let’s be honest, in Nebraska we could get a heat wave, tornado or even a blizzard on any given day.  This space gives us outdoor and indoor options so we can take full advantage of the gardens but still be comfortable indoors no matter what the weather. The space fits the number of guests while still maintaining an intimate feel.

  • Maureen - I love Lauritzen Gardens as a wedding venue. Megan is right on; there are perfect spaces to celebrate and it gives such a romantic memorable feeling to the festivities.August 7, 2012 – 11:01 pmReplyCancel
