After getting engaged, the first thing I drew inspiration from was that sweet, southern charm. Although I was born and raised in Minnesota, nothing makes me happier than some great BBQ, sweet tea, country music and loyal friends and family. I knew my dream wedding encompassed a laid-back, feminine and rustic charm. I also think it is extremely important to include the groom in all wedding plans, and since my wedding colors are blush and champagne, I needed to add some masculinity to the theme. With some help from my mom, best friends and florist, I have decided to keep the ceremony very romantic and feminine, and to create a rustic look at the reception with items like wooden candlesticks and darker, more dramatic hues.

Some great advice someone shared with me when finding wedding inspiration is to look through interior design magazines, fashion magazines, and paint samples. Also, think of your favorite foods, drinks and music.

The photos below define my wedding theme and inspiration. They are light, romantic, a little whimsical and rustic. I hope these make my wedding vision a little more clear. I am beyond excited to share my decisions leading up to the big day and to see the final product this August!

Congratulations to Simply Chic Creations, winner of the Invitation Design Challenge for the “Modern Elegance” invitation! This contest was a big hit and we’re thankful to all of our talented invitation designers for their beautiful entries.

Jon and I attended our first Bridal Fair last weekend, and we learned a lot! At first, it seemed overwhelming talking to all of the different companies and looking at all of the different booths. We went in there with a plan to find a DJ and transportation, so after we got back on track with what we were looking for it went much smoother.

Jon and I definitely learned our lesson when it comes to booking services for the big day. Both the DJ we wanted before this weekend and the party buses around Lincoln are booked for August 6. We shouldn’t have waited so long, and know now that if you know what you want, don’t hesitate to get them booked!

At the Bridal Fair, we talked to a couple different DJs and got a few references from other booths of companies that did not attend the Bridal Fair. We also talked with Luxury Limousine. They were booked on our wedding date, but had a list going to sign up for a new bus they plan to purchase. We found some great DJs and are hoping that the party bus works out for us!

Bridal Fair Tip: Sign-up for any drawings that are offered for something you are interested in, even if you aren’t 100% positive you need/want it. If you win it and decide you don’t need it, you can always give it to another bride. There were so many drawings for things that I later realized could have been useful that I missed out on, and when I go to the next Bridal Fair, I won’t make the same mistake again.

Although Jon and I didn’t win any of the drawings, we received a lot of coupons that were being handed out, got some great ideas for flowers, centerpieces, and decorating, and got to meet with a lot of great businesses!

Until next time,
Morgan
